A Lifetime of Creative Exploration
My name is Tita Costa, and I am an artist and creator. For more than forty years, I have worked with oil and acrylic on canvas as well as watercolour, exhibiting my work in numerous solo and group exhibitions. My work has been shown in Portugal and internationally, including Switzerland, Belgium, and Spain.
One of my lifelong passions is textiles. For more than ten years, I dedicated my artistic practice to tapestry weaving, creating handwoven works from materials I prepared myself. I spun and dyed the fibres before weaving them into finished tapestries, embracing every stage of the creative process from raw material to completed artwork.
In recent years, I have expanded my artistic practice to embrace generative art, exploring the creative possibilities of artificial intelligence while continuing my lifelong commitment to visual expression.
I hold a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Porto, Portugal, and a Master’s degree from Coventry University in the United Kingdom. My academic background, combined with decades of artistic practice, has shaped my approach to both traditional and digital forms of creative expression.
For over three years, I have been sharing my art almost every day. This journey began with a Blogspot blog, where, since the early days of Midjourney, I have consistently published two new images every single day. This daily creative practice has remained at the heart of my artistic routine and reflects my deep commitment to generative art.
Over time, I explored a variety of digital platforms and creative ventures, including YouTube channels (@titacostaai, @titacostatvart, @titacostasound), stock photography through Dreamstime, and collaborations with Spoonflower (textiles and home décor products) and Artgrab. While I enjoyed these experiences, I eventually chose to step away from some of them to focus fully on what I love most: exploring Midjourney as a fine art tool. Finding an authorial voice in generative art is a longer journey than most people expect. After three years of experimenting with Midjourney, I finally reached a point where using AI as a creative medium felt natural, allowing me to develop a body of work that genuinely reflects my artistic vision.
Today, I devote myself to creating digital wall art, using generative AI as a creative tool. Through vibe coding, I developed a custom application that enables me to manipulate and transform AI-generated images into an original body of work that I call Synthetic Garden. This series extends beyond generative art itself, reflecting the essential role of human artistic authorship by combining artificial intelligence with personal vision, aesthetic judgment, and creative direction. The result is a distinctive artistic practice in which technology serves as a medium rather than the creator. I currently present this evolving body of work through my Saatchi Art shop, where Synthetic Garden forms the digital fine art branch of my artistic practice.
In addition to creating wall art, I write a weekly newsletter on Substack (e-mail: titacosta@substack.com). Through my Substack newsletter, I explore the evolving role of artificial intelligence in society, examining its technologies, applications, opportunities, and broader impact on the way we live and work. Each edition includes a curated gallery of ten images developed around a particular theme, concept, or prompt.
